Out of Time - Jonathan Dove & Sacconi Quartet

My new film with the Sacconi Quartet - a haunting performance of Jonathan Dove’s ‘Out of Time’ shot during UK lockdown in the derelict Folkestone Leas Pavilion - is now available on Amazon. For the film’s launch we’ve partnered with the Hands Up Foundation, a charity that supports health and education programmes in Syria and Lebanon. More information here.

The full performance is available here.

Oceans of Lemonade and Other Necessary Nowheres

My pocket-sized utopian handbook, featuring 60 pages of text and illustrations traces the history of literary utopias from Medieval times to the present day, asking the question: where have all the big dreams gone?

The book is now available to buy online from Magma books here.

““It is 1516.

In England, change is afoot.
Thanks to the Archery Act, adult male longbow competency is on the rise. In other news, thousands of jobless common folk are wandering the parishes looking for work. Poverty is a very risky business on the highways and byways of Tudor England, with even the smallest of crimes punished with public humiliation, or bloody violence.

London meanwhile, is dark, dirty, and dangerous.

In the evening, church bells ring out to warn of the dusk curfew, and the limbs of traitors rot above the city gates. Unimaginable as it may seem, both forks and potatoes are yet to arrive on England’s shores.

These are dark days indeed...””

Deaths Cabaret

The desperate, dancing denouement from Death's Cabaret - A Love Story, a compelling concerto for cello/baritone/actor and strings.

Performed 22 May 2018 in Dunkerque France by Matthew Sharp & The Sacconi Quartet.

Giles, Miranda, Simon, Steven and a some very lucky filmmakers...

This summer Abbey Road Studios and Sonos teamed up to host a fantastic film making competition - Re-Scored - with the winning film (Luke Flanagan's 'Mind the Gap') receiving a top class audio rework, including a brand new score by Oscar Winning composer Steven Price (Gravity, Attack the Block...) performed by a 40 piece orchestra, recorded in Abbey Road's prestigious Studio One.

Central to the campaign's success was a series of branded content pieces I created documenting competition judges Giles Martin, Miranda Sawyer, Steven Price and Simon Cellan Jones' quest for the winning film.

Project R287 Receives Funding from Screen Territory

Back in 2012 I began researching an incredible real-life story concerning a group of individuals in Darwin Australia during the first world war. 4 years later, this research has become a feature film project with the working title R287.

Darwin was known as one of the last ‘frontier towns’ of Australia, a home to “Mercenaries, Missionaries and Misfits”. It’s a fascinating period in history, Darwin a melting pot of cultures closer aligned with Asia than Australia, but despite it’s cosmopolitan veneer the streets were wrought with cultural conflict.

In September 2016 Screen Territory funded development of the project allowing the team; Rod McMillan, Michele Adler, Phil Tarl Denson and myself to meet in Melbourne and Darwin in November 2016 to further develop the narrative.

The film is all about racial prejudice and alienation, relevant subject matter to today’s audiences. Thanks to the great support from Screen Territory, we are now bringing this story to life.

Cooking with El Jefe

I've worked with El Jefe and his premium Salsa brand for quite a while - promoting his unique philosophy and hot sauce to the world.

Recently he asked me to create a pilot for his cooking show. The brief was simple - "Low fi, Bad taste, as quick as you can and i'll pay you in tortillas."

Here's what we came up with....

Old Earth on the TV

Collaborating with our friends at Red14 Los Angeles – I recently directed & produced the new book trailer for Gary Grossman's novel, Old Earth, published by Diversion Books. Teaming up with DOP Tom Chapman in Australia, the final film contains scenes shot across various locations in London, Melbourne, and Somerset.

It even got talked about on KTLA Morning News....."Nothing Wrong with that..."
